Cullowhee, N.C. – After a three-week break, the Western Carolina men's and women's cross country teams are back in action on Friday afternoon as the Catamounts journey to Charlotte for the Queen City Invitational at McAlpine Park. The women's 5K race starts at 5 p.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 5:30 p.m.
The meet, which is hosted by Queens University, consists of 44 schools from the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, NCCAA, and junior college levels. Joining Western Carolina in the Division I portion of the meet are SoCon foes Furman, Mercer, and The Citadel along with Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Gardner-Webb, James Madison, Ohio, and South Carolina State.
In the season-opening Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C., the women's team finished in fifth place while the men's team finished eighth. Senior Lindsey Trotter paced the women with a 28th-place run as she completed the 5,200-meter course in 19:29.51 and was closely followed by sophomores Kate Mattison and Siena Gates. On the men's side, senior Isaiah Hanna finished in 40th place with a time of 27:32.11.
WCU competes in its final pre-conference tune-up on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
