CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Western Carolina forced a 1-1 tie with Southern Conference opponent Chattanooga Sunday night at Finley Stadium.
The score by Western Carolina (8-6-2, 2-4-1) was a goal at the 30:12 mark. WCU's Nardia Moore headed a shot and UTC's Carla Titizian tried to clear it out of bounds, but it sailed into the net. UTC tied the score less than a minute into the second half when Charlene Shaughnessy
took a pass from Haugen and drove it home.
Chattanooga (5-6-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the SoCon) had a chance to win it in regulation but a penalty kick by freshman Oddbjorg Haugen with less than minute remaining sailed over the goal.
The rest of the game was up to the defenses and goalkeepers as the teams played scoreless soccer for the remaining 44:32 of regulation and 30 minutes of overtime. WCU's Mandi Tinsley recorded eight saves while UTC keeper Rawlslyn Ray recorded 10.
The Catamounts out-shot UTC 20-16 and WCU had eight corner kicks to five for the Lady Mocs. UTC and WCU both had five shots in the two overtimes.
WCU's Moore had seven shots, and Felicia Wilson and Jordan Howell four each. UTC's Haugen had five shots for UTC and Tiffany Gee had four.
