Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina men's basketball team fell in its home opener to Lee University 80-75 Tuesday night in the Ramsey Center.
Despite a 36-31 lead going into the second half Western was outshot 49-39 in the second half. The Cats marked an eight-point lead with 14:46 remaining in the game however would relinquish it at the 11:30 mark with a pair of free throws by Lee's Xavier Morton. Lee continued on to a 10-point lead with 7:13 remaining.
Western's Corey Wells led the team with 18 and brought the game within five at the 4:44 mark. He added with a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining on the clock.
Also scoring in double figures for the Cats were Casey Rogers with 14, Willie Freeman with 12 and Cory Largent with 11.
Leading the way for Lee was Jo Van Johnson with the game high 19 and Demetrius Morgan with 17.
Western Carolina falls to an overall record of 0-4. They will take on St. Mary's College Monday, November 27 in a double-header with the women. The women's team will play Campbell at 6:00 and the men will play St. Mary's at 8:00.
