Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina (2-6) men's basketball team took an impressive 74-64 win over Stetson (3-3) Thursday night in the Ramsey Center.
After a 34-34 tie at the half Western started the second half with a one-point lead at the 16:33 mark. After several possession changes, the two teams shared the lead until the 7:40 mark where Stetson began a three-point lead. Western Carolina put a stop to the Hatters, however, and outscored the team 19-6 for a 10-point lead with 57 seconds remaining in the game.
Free throws by juniors Casey Rogers and Cory Largent kept Western in the lead. A free throw by sophomore Kori Hatcher sealed the final score of 74-64.
The Cats were led by Largent with 24 points, tying his career-high se against Southern Conference opponent UNC Greensboro last season. Three other Catamounts scored in double figures, Rogers with 13, Corey Wells with 11 and Willie Freeman recording the teams only double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Stetson was led by senior Sebastian Singletary with 17 points, 13 rebounds and junior Santos Hampton with 16 points, 14 rebounds.
Western Carolina will travel to Blemont Saturday, December 9 at 5:00 p.m. The Cats will return home to take on Mercer, December 12 at 7:00 p.m.
