Freshman Jordan Howell Records Hat Trick

Conway, S.C. - Freshman forward Jordan Howell scored her first collegiate hat trick to lead Western Carolina to a 5-3 victory over Coastal Carolina University in women's soccer action on Saturday night at CCU Soccer Stadium. The Lady Cats are now 1-0 on the season, while the Lady Chanticleers drop to 0-2-1 in their inaugural season of play.

After three ties in the game, Western Carolina's Felicia Wilson tallied the game-winning goal at 67:57 as she beat two defenders down the right side and then slotted the ball past Coastal's keeper to give the Catamounts a 4-3 advantage. Sophomore Morgan Foresman put the game away as she rebounded a shot by Stacey Mardis and notched the final goal of the contest at 83:56.

Coastal Carolina's Marissa Kovacs gave the Lady Chants a 1-0 lead at 21:41 of the first half as she scored on a header on a cross by junior Kristen Wisse. Western's Howell then scored the first of her three goals at 29:07 to tie the contest.

Coastal again took the lead when Tiffany Turner scored her second goal of the season as Wisse crossed the ball and Kovacs directed the ball toward the goal for the score. Howell again tied the match 2:39 before the end of the first half on a goal assisted by Kelly Barker and Brandy Ossmann. Wisse scored her first goal as a Lady Chanticleer on a direct kick from 25 yards out as the Lady Chants took a 3-2 advantage. Once again, it was Howell who answered the call exactly three minutes later as she beat her defender and lifted the ball the Lady Chants keeper.

Western Carolina will travel to Charleston Southern Monday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. and then to South Carolina State Tuesday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m.
