Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team battled in a 2-5 loss to UNC Asheville Thursday afternoon.
Juniors Shelby Fitzpatrick and Emmy King won their singles matches 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively. Fitzpatrick and freshman Shannon Zalinski also won the team's only doubles match 8-3.
Freshman Kristin Munn came back in her second set to defeat UNCA's Stefanie Shuba 6-2 after falling 4-6 in the first set. She went on to lose 1-6 in a hard fought third set.
WCU's Erin Johnson fell to Nancy Livesay in the longest match of the day 5-7 in the first set. She fought back to defeat Livesay 6-4 in the second and lost 6-7 (7-5) in a tiebreaker in the third.
Western will next play Elon at home Saturday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. for the team's last match of the fall season.
