Women's Soccer Battles Southern Conference Opponent Wofford

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina (5-5-1, 0-3) women's soccer team lost a hard fought battle against Southern Conference opponent Wofford (8-1, 3-0) 2-3 Friday, September 29 at Charles W. Schrader Field.

WCU's sophomore Nardia Moore brought the women's soccer team back to life in the second half with her fifth goal of the season at the 68:25 mark. The goal triggered the tie game at two when freshman Jordan Howell marked her ninth goal of the season off a pass from freshman Brandy Ossmann at 78:06.

Wofford fought back with a goal by sophomore Faith Stewart at 86:29, her second of the game with the assists by Kara Palmquist and Jenny Petrilyak.

Petrilyak also scored the first goal of the game at 33:51 with the assist by Palmquist. Stewart scored her first of two goals at the 39:48 mark to send the two teams into halftime with Wofford leading 2-0.

Howell led the team offensively with five shots on the day. She was followed by Moore who added four. Sophomore goalkeeper Mandi Tinsley recorded six saves as well as Wofford's Katie Menegaz.

WCU marked 14 shots as a team to Wofford's 15.

The Lady Cats will host conference rival Furman, who is receiving votes for national rankings Sunday, October 1st. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
