Women's Soccer Tops UNC Greensboro In Double Overtime

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team defeated UNC Greensboro, 2-1 in double overtime, Friday afternoon at Schrader Field. The Catamounts stepped into third place in the Southern Conference with an overall record of 10-3 and 4-1 in the league. UNC Greensboro falls to 6-6 and 3-2.

A shot by UNC Greensboro's Rakel Logadottir hit the top of the post. Kate Dylag got the deflection and sent the ball into the back of the net to put the Spartans ahead 1-0 at 12:08. Western retaliated with a cross by Brandy Ossmann to Nardia Moore tying the score at 49:33.

The two teams forced the double overtime with UNC Greensboro outshooting Western 4-3. At the 109:48 minute mark, Moore set up Lauren Bramlett for her only shot of the day for the game winning goal.

"This is the biggest win in our program's history," stated Head Coach Debbie Hensley. "UNC Greensboro has been a dominant force in the Southern Conference and in the South Region for many years. Our team played their hearts out and I could not be more proud of them."

The win was the first for Western over Greensboro in the program's three year history. WCU goalkeeper Mandi Tinsley tallied her tenth win of the season and seven saves. Bramlett is tied with Jordan Howell with four game winning goals, three of Bramlett's game winners have been in overtime.

Western Carolina will host Davidson, Sunday, October 14 at 1:00 pm.
