Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina sophomore Jordan Howell scored two goals in the opening 18 minutes to lead the Catamounts to a 4-0 victory over Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State Friday afternoon at Schrader Field.

Western, 10th in the Southeast Region in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Women's Division I rankings, improves to 9-0 in home matches this season and 13-4 overall, 7-2 in the SoCon. East Tennessee State falls to 2-12-1, 1-7 SoCon.

Western opened the match with the ball and set the stage early for an offensive attack, getting a shot on goal less than a minute into the contest. Howell put the Cats on the board at the 8:10 mark off a Kelly Barker assist. Just over nine minutes later, Howell dribbled around the Buc defense to nail an open look at the net from 10 feet out for her team-leading, 12th goal of the season (17:38).

The Catamounts kept the pressure on, scoring a third goal less than nine minutes later. Sophomore Lauren Bramlett scored an unassisted goal (26:39) for her eighth of the season. Bramlett also provided the final 4-0 margin, scoring a break-away goal off a Tami Piscott pass with only 10 minutes left in the contest.

Western goalkeepers Mandi Tinsley and Tina Weaver combined for the shutout. The pair only faced a total of three shots and each recorded a save. Weaver, who played 54 minutes, made an impressive punch save with less than 30 seconds left in the first half to preserve the shutout.

East Tennessee State was led by Elizabeth Smith, who recorded all three of her team's shots on goal. Buc keeper Heather Sanden was credited with 12 saves on Western's 23 shots.

Western Carolina, who is a half game out of first place in the Southern Conference standings, will play its final league match of the season on Sunday (Oct. 28) when the Catamounts host rival Appalachian State. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m., at Schrader Field.
