Women's Soccer Falls In Southern Conference Championship Game.

GREENVILLE, SC -- Senior Kate Dylag scored the game winner in the 110th minute of the second overtime peroid as third seeded UNC Greensboro upset top seeded Western Carolina in the championship match of the 2001 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championships at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium on the Furman University campus.

Dylag volleyed in a cross by Melissa Boythe on a free kick to give the Spartans the deciding score. For Dylag, it was her 14th goal of the season and her third point of the game.

UNCG struck first in the match when Dylag assisted on a goal scored by Kara Mirarchi at the 1:13 mark in the first half that gave UNCG a lead.

Western Carolina evened the score in the twenty-fourth minute. Sophomore Lauren Bramlett stole a clearing pass and beat UNCG goalkeeper Kathryn Clewley high to tie the game at one apiece. Clewley made six saves on the afternoon.

The two teams battled through a scoreless second half. With time dwindling, WCU goalkeeper Mandi Tinsley made a one-handed jumping save a Lynsey McLean shot from 40 yards to send the game into overtime. Tinsley recorded two saves for the Lady Catamounts.

Western Carolina concluded the tournament with a 16-6 record. The loss was WCU's first in overtime this season. UNC Greensboro (15-7) advances to the NCAA Tournament and will find out Monday afternoon who they will face in the first round.
