GREENVILLE, SC - WCU's Nardia Moore scored a pair of goals to lead the Catamounts to a 2-1 win over Georgia Southern in game five of the 2001 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championships at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium on the Furman University campus.
With the win, Western Carolina, in its third year sponsoring women's soccer, becomes the fastest team to advance to the championship match in conference history.
Georgia Southern's Katy Znosko put the Eagles up 1-0 early when she made a run off a long ball from Genevieve Ward and slipped past Catamount goal keeper Mandi Tinsley on the far post. WCU scored at the 28:40 mark when Nardia Moore played a short pass from Lauren Bramlett to even the score at the half.
WCU broke the tie with 10:47 left in the second half when Jordan Howell played a give and go to Moore who snuck the ball past GSU"s Tanya Woehr for the game-winner. Woehr tallied nine saves in the match with Tinsley recording one.
WCU outshot Georgia Southern 16-6.
Western Carolina (16-5) advances to play the winner of Furman/UNC Greensboro Sunday afternoon in the championship match at 2:00 pm. Georgia Southern ends its season with a 12-6-1 record.
