WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Randy Burns scored 27 points as Wichita State defeated
Western Carolina 102-73 Friday night.
Wichita State (5-5) led all the way, playing one of their most consistent
games of the season. The Shockers built a 54-34 halftime lead over Carolina on
their way to the most lopsided win this season.
Burns scored 18 points in the first half and burned the Catamounts shooting
6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 from behind the three-point line in the first
half.
Troy Mack pitched in 15 points and Jamar Howard, Rob Kampman and reserve
Matt Clark had 14 points apiece for the Shockers.
Western Carolina (6-4), which had a three-game winning streak snapped, could
get no closer than 26 points in the final 10 minutes.
The Catamounts were led by Cory Largent with 28 points. Largent's total was a season high and the second highest of his career, scoring 30 versus Wofford last season. Kevin Martin added 13 and Willie Freeman scored 10.
Western Carolina will play the third of its current four-game road swing on Saturday (Dec. 29) at Eastern Michigan. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at EMU's Convocation Center. The Catamounts will then open SoCon play on Jan. 2 (Wednesday) at VMI.
