Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - Wofford senior Jenny Nett set a Ramsey Center record by scoring a career-high 38 points to lead her Terriers to a 97-88 victory over the Western Carolina women's basketball team Sunday afternoon.

The previous Ramsey Center record for points in a game was 32 by three players, including WCU's Laura Vannoy (1990), North Carolina State's Rhonda Mapp (1990) and Lander's Shelia Williams (1988).

Wofford (8-4, 2-1 SoCon) jumped out to an early lead as it scorched the nets, making 6-of-9 from the three point arc in the first 20 minutes and shot 64 percent from the field overall. The biggest lead for the Terriers was 17 (47-30) with 1:40 left in the half. However, Western closed the gap to 47-36 at halftime with a 6-0 run.

Early in the second half, the Catamounts (8-3, 1-2 SoCon) cut the lead to nine, but would get no closer until the final minute. Wofford continued their hot shooting in the second half and would extend their lead to 18 (90-72) with 2:53 remaining. The Cats went on a 16-4 run over the next 2:39 to cut the Wofford lead to 94-88, before the Terries added three points for the final margin.

Western Carolina was led by Laura Echols. The senior center recorded a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds and registered three steals and three blocked shots. Yoneko Allen, who missed the last two-and-a-half games with an ankle injury, and Tiffany Hamm chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively for the Catamounts. Freshman Miranda Long also reached double figures with 10 points, while Janetta Heggins had a career-high six steals.

Nett's 38 points for the Terriers came on 12-of-19 shooting, including 5-of-8 from 3-point land, and 9-of-16 from the line. Ricaye Harris added 20 points, while Stephanie Ripberger scored 11.

Western Carolina returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 5) as they travel to Chattanooga to play the Mocs. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
