Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team fell to Southern Conference opponent UNC Greensboro, 1-6, Saturday afternoon after a 30 minute rain delay. Western Carolina falls to a 1-6 overall record and 0-4 in league play while Greensboro improves to 5-7, 3-1.
WCU's junior Shelby Fitzpatrick recorded the team's only singles win of the day defeating Greensboro's Ashley Rimel. Fitzpatrick battled her way back into the match to win 7-5, 7-5. She improves her individual record to 3-1.
Freshman Kristin Munn also have a difficult match with Christina Weber in a 6-2, 6-2 loss. Munn falls to a 2-2 record.
In doubles play, Fitzpatrick and freshman Shannon Zalinski had a come from behind victory over Kristen Adamson and Natalie Cherry. The duo fought back from a 4-5 deficit to take the win 8-6.
The Lady Catamounts will host conference rival Appalachian State Sunday, March 25. The match is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
