Johnson City, Tenn. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team fell to East Tennessee State, 2-5 as they won two singles matches Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Kristin Munn fell to ETSU's Paty Vega 6-0,6-0 at No. 1 singles. Junior Shelby Fitzpatrick also fell to ETSU's Mami Inoue at No. 2 singles 6-1,6-0. Freshman Shannon Zalinski staged a comeback defeating Lady Buc Tatiana Arriaran 6-0,6-0 at No. 4 singles. The Catamounts' junior Emmy King also won her match at No. 5 singles, as she defeated Cara Prupas 2-6,6-2,6-2.
In doubles action, the team of Fitzpatrick and Zalinski fell to Vega and Inoue 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. King and Johnson battled ETSU's Irey and Arriaran in a 9-8 loss at No.2 doubles.
The Lady Cats will return home to challenge Southern Conference leader Furman University Wednesday, April 4. Match time is set for 3:00 p.m.
