Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team held off Wofford in a 1-0 victory to remain undefeated in the SoCon Friday at Schrader Field. The Catamounts improve to 6-3-2 overall and 3-0-2 in the league while Wofford falls to 4-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.
Senior Nardia Moore scored her second goal of the season off a pass by freshman Marie Nicolini at the 22:42 mark in the first half to give WCU the 1-0 edge. The Lady Cats used their defense and increased communication to keep the Terriers at bay and hang on for the victory.
Wofford outshot Western Carolina, 12-8. However, senior keeper Mandi Tinsley recorded more saves in the match, fending off eight shots to record her third complete shutout of the season. Katie Menegaz had six saves in the match.
The Catamounts continue their home stand, hosting Furman on Sunday (Oct. 13) at 1 pm. Wofford travels to Chattanooga to take on the Lady Mocs at UTC also on Sunday at 3 pm.
