Johnson City, Tenn. - The Western Carolina soccer team shut out East Tennessee State,1-0, in Johnson City Friday night. With the win, the Catamounts improve to 7-4-2 (4-1-2 SoCon), while ETSU falls to 5-7-1, (2-4-1 SoCon).
The first period proved to be an offensive struggle for both teams as the period ended scoreless. The game-winning goal came in the 57th minute as Lauren Bramlett received a pass from Kelly Barker and shot the ball through the out stretched hands of Buccaneer keeper Heather Sanden. The goal marked the second for Bramlett for the season.
Western Carolina out shot East Tennessee State 21-9. Mandi Tinsley added six saves to bring her total to 89 for the year and notched her fourth complete shutout of the season. Sanden recorded nine saves on the night, including a diving save off of a Catamount penalty kick.
Western Carolina will travel to Appalachian State Sunday (Oct. 20) for the 2:00 start.
The Buccaneers return to action Sunday at home against Chattanooga, also at 2:00.
