Women's Soccer Catamount Athletics

WCU Soccer Shuts Out App State, 1-0

BOONE, N.C. -- The Western Carolina women's soccer team shut out Appalachian State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium. It was the second shutout of the weekend for the Catamounts.

The Catamounts came out strong, as they connected on a foul kick with only 45 seconds elapsing off the clock. Lauren Bramlett kicked the ball towards the goal and teammate Natalie Turgeon headed the ball in to give the Catamounts the lead, 1-0. The Mountaineers outshot the Catamounts in the first half with seven shots, five of which were on goal. The Catamounts had three shots, two on goal.

Western Carolina managed to hold off the Mountaineers and posted three more shots in the second half, one on goal. Appalachian could not get back into the match, as the Catamounts went on to win, 1-0.

Western Carolina improves to 8-4-2 on the year and 5-1-2 in conference play. Appalachian falls to 4-10-1 on the season and 2-5-1 in SoCon action.

Western Carolina steps out of SoCon action as they travel to Conway, S.C., to take on Coastal Carolina Friday (Oct. 25) at 7 pm. Appalachian will play host to South Carolina State in a non-conference battle on Tuesday at 7:30.
