WCU soccer team falls to Coastal Carolina, 2-1

CONWAY, S.C. - Western Carolina dropped a 2-1 decision to Coastal Carolina after Marisa Kovacs scored a goal midway through the second half to break a 1-1 tie and give the Lady Chants the victory Friday evening at CCU Soccer Stadium.

Western Carolina (8-5-2) jumped out to an early lead when freshman Natasha Moore netted her sixth goal of the season to put WCU up, 1-0. Moore's goal which was unassisted, came at the 38:37 mark.

Coastal Carolina (7-5-3) would even the match at 1-1, when senior Kristen Wisse scored her second goal of the season, on a header of a throw-in by Kovacs. Wisse's goal came at the 71:09 mark of the second half.

Kovacs would record the game-winner, just under seven minutes later off an assist from Rachel Devine.

Junior Candice Doten recorded five saves on the night for the Lady Chants, while senior Mandi Tinsley stopped five shots for the Catamounts.

Western Carolina returns to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against The Citadel in Charleston, while Coastal next faces Chattanooga on Sunday.
