HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Marvin Black had 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field and added 10 rebounds to lead Marshall (5-2) to an 83-68 decision over Western Carolina Friday.
The Catamounts were without Kevin Martin for the final 11 minutes after fouling out. However, Alex Osipovitch scored a career-high 18 points to keep Western close. The Cats had several chances to make a run inside the final six minutes, but were never able to get their deficit to single digits. Marshall sank 8-of-10 free throws inside the final minute to seal the win.
Kevin Martin, who only played 13 minutes in the contest due to foul trouble, scored 11. The Zanesville, Ohio, product only played nine minutes in the first half and picked up two quick fouls in the first two minutes of the second. Corey Muirhead had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Rans Brempong added 10 points.
Monty Wright scored 11 for the Herd, and Ronny Dawn and David Anderson each
added 10.
Ronald Blackshear, who entered averaging 21 ppg, was held to four points and
shot 2-of-11 from the floor for Marshall thanks to defensive pressure by a host a Catamounts, including Terrence Woodyard.
Western Carolina will return to action Monday, Dec. 23, at Tennessee. The contest is set to begin at 7 pm in Thompson-Boling Arena and will be telecast on Charter/Comcast Sports Southeast.
