Chattanooga scored the first four points of the game and never looked back as the Lady Mocs (16-6, 10-3 SoCon) handed Western Carolina (13-9, 5-8 SoCon) an 83-52 loss Monday afternoon at the Ramsey Activity Center.
After Chattanooga's quick start, Western cut its deficit to nine points (15-6) with 12:11 left in the first half. The Lady Mocs's Tiffany Patton answered with a layup and Chattanooga would maintain a double-digit lead the remainder of the contest. Patton's layup spurred an 11-0 run to put the Mocs up 26-6 at the 6:44 mark.
Chattanooga took a 39-15 lead at halftime. The Mocs shot 59.3 percent from the field and held Western to just 28.6 percent shooting. The Catamounts also committed 11 turnovers in the period.
Western Carolina played inspired to start the second half, cutting the 24-point halftime lead to 17 (50-33) at the 14:53 mark. However, the Lady Mocs regained the momentum on a 3-pointer by Miranda Warfield and outscored the Catamounts 28-17 over the final 13 minutes for the win.
Three Mocs scored in double figures. Jennifer Wilson led Chattanooga with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and making all three free throws. She only missed one shot in the first half, scoring 14 points. Miranda Warfield contributed 16 points off the bench, making 4-of-7 3-pointers. Damita Bullock added 11 points.
Western Carolina was led by Laura Echols, who scored a game-high 18 points.
The Catamounts will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 9) with a home game versus Georgia Southern. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
