Boone, N.C. - After sending four singles matches into a third set, the Lady Catamounts lost a hard fought battle to conference foe Appalachian State Sunday afternoon in Boone. Western Carolina drops to 6-10 (1-6 SoCon) while the Mountaineers improve to 6-11 (3-5 SoCon).
In doubles action, Shelby Fitzpatrick and Shannon Zalinski fell to Tammy Beaulieu and Jennifer Fayad, 8-3. Emmy King and Kristin Cotton lost to Elena Berger and Melissa Burgette, 8-4. The number three seed team of Kristin Munn and Erin Johnson dropped to Kasia Finkowska and Donna Altenburger, 8-2.
In singles play, four Catamounts sent their matches into a third set fighting hard for the points. Shelby Fitzpatrick, Erin Johnson, Emmy King, and Kristin Cotton all played a third set, but lost in the end to the Mountaineers.
The Lady Cats travel to Spartanburg Tuesday to take on the Lady Terriers of Wofford at 3:30 pm. Western has one final home match of the season when they host UNC Asheville on April 16. This game was rescheduled from earlier this month.
