Catamount Soccer Team Keeps Streak Alive by Defeating College of Charleston, 2-0

Sept. 22, 2002

Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team kept their 16-match home unbeaten streak alive Sunday as they defeated conference foe College of Charleston, 2-0, under rainy and muddy conditions at Schrader Field. With the win, WCU improved their record to 3-2-1 for the season and 1-0-1 in the SoCon, while C of C falls to 2-4-2 (1-1-0).

Jordan Howell was the one to score first for the Catamounts at the 35:21 mark in the first half. Howell warded off a defender and shot the ball from the far left side of the goal box, sending it into the top right corner of the net just out of goalie Emily Brenner's reach. The goal was unassisted and her second of the season.

After playing 2:45 of the second half, play was stopped due to heavy rain and lightning. After an hour and a half delay, play resumed on a very soggy field. However, the Cats came out with energy, as did the Cougars. Both teams had opportunities to score, but WCU's and Charleston's defense executed well in the second. Western's Mandi Tinsley scooped up three saves in the half to match the three she had in the first. Brenner posted three as well in the second.

Late in the second, Lauren Bramlett took control of the ball and took a shot from the top of the box, sending it into the right corner for the unassisted goal and a 2-0 lead at the 77:28 mark. The goal was her first for the year.

The Catamounts travel to UNC Greensboro on Friday (Sept. 27) to take on the Spartans at 7 pm in WCU's first conference road test this season. The Cougars face Georgia Southern in Statesboro on Wednesday (Sept. 25).
