STATESBORO, Ga. - Casey Davis' goal less than three minutes into the second half proved to be the game winner as Western Carolina defeated Georgia Southern 1-0 in Southern Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.
Davis took a corner kick from Lauren Bramlett and headed the ball past diving Eagle keeper Kari Gast for the game-winner at the 47:27 mark.
Georgia Southern (5-12-1, 1-7-1) saw several chances to even the match, but fell short as Catamount keeper Tina Weaver made four saves on the day, including three in the second half. Tanya Woehr made two saves for the Eagles during the first half of play while Gast made six during the second period. Overall, Western Carolina (6-9-2, 3-6-0) owned a 12-5 advantage in shots.
Western Carolina stays on the road, traveling to Charleston, S.C., to face The Citadel at 3:00 pm on Friday.
