Catamount Soccer Shuts Out The Citadel, 5-0

Charleston, S.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team extended their winning streak to three matches and ended The Citadel's regular-season Friday afternoon as the Catamounts (7-9-2, 4-6-0 SoCon) defeated the Bulldogs (2-14-1, 0-11-0)in Southern Conference action at Washington Light Infantry. WCU freshman Stephanie Svoboda posted two goals, while sophomore Natasha Moore tallied two assists in the win.

Svoboda put the Catamounts on the board early with a 20-yard shot off a pass from Moore four minutes into the match. Ten minutes later, Moore assisted senior Jordan Howell, and sophomore Casey Davis wrapped up the half at the 37:00 mark with a goal of her own to put Western Carolina up 3-0 at the half.

Svoboda netted her second goal of the game at 56:49 on a deflection off Howell's shot from the 18. Senior Kristen Deon finished the score at 5-0 as she found the back of the net at 81:21.

The Citadel's goalkeeper senior Rose Rodriguez had three saves in 45 minutes of action, while Western Carolina's senior Tina Weaver tallied two saves in 65 minutes of play. Freshman Alesha Row finished out the final 25 minutes in goal. All together, the Catamounts out-shot the Bulldogs, 27-6.

"We did a good job of creating quality scoring opportunities today," WCU head coach Debbie Hensley said. "I am very pleased with our effort. I'm glad to see the team coming together on the field and playing well at the end of the season"

Western continues their tour of Charleston as they face the College of Charleston Cougars Sunday at Noon.
