Final Stats

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - Claire Wigfall nailed both Cougar goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime, as the College of Charleston women's soccer team defeated the Western Carolina Catmamounts, 2-1, this afternoon at Patriots Point.

The loss sends the Catamounts to 7-10-2 on the year and 4-7 in the Southern Conference. The win gives the Cougars an 11-6-2 overall record and 7-3-1 league mark.

After a scoreless first half, the Cougars went on the board just 3:45 into the second half after the first shot that Wigfall took deflected back to her for the second chance goal at the 48:45 mark. Western Carolina answered at 74:22 when Natalie Turgeon sent her shot just over the arms of Cougar goalkeeper Alice Keeney. Regulation would end with the score knotted at 1-1.

The first overtime came and went with no score and it looked as though the second would also until just 1:21 left in the game when Wigfall took the pass from Jamie Stewart and drove the ball in for the score at 108:39.

The Cougars led the match in shots 18-10, with the Catamounts taking the saves advantage 9-6. Carolyn Morris led Charleston with five shots, while Casey Davis led the Catamounts with three shots.

With a Davidson loss Sunday afternoon, the Catamounts are on their way to Greensboro, N.C., for the Southern Conference Touranment this week as the eighth seed. WCU is set to face top-seeded Furman Thursday.
