Final Stats

Stillwater, Okla. - Western Carolina, ranked 34th nationally, scored 13 runs in the final five frames to defeat 26th-ranked Oklahoma State 15-9 in baseball action Wednesday night at Reynolds Stadium.

The Catamounts broke open a 5-5 tie game with five runs in the top of the sixth and never looked back from sweeping the Cowboys in the two game series. Western won its seventh straight game and improved to 31-14 on the year, while OSU fell to 28-17.

The Catamounts jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when left fielder Alan Beck reached on an infield single and scored on a two-out double by first baseman Todd Buchanan.

Catcher Jason Jaramillo tied it in the second on a solo homer to right off of WCU starter Seth Foster. Catamount catcher Brian Sigmon returned the favor in the top of the third with a solo blast to right-center to put them back on top 2-1.

WCU added three runs to its lead in the fifth, courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Todd Roper and a two-run single by left fielder Beck.

OSU tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the inning when Josh Fields knocked a three-run homer to left and first baseman John Urick followed with a solo homer down the right field line.

The Catamounts took advantage of two fielding miscues by the Pokes in the sixth to score five runs. They added two more runs in the seventh on a homer by pinch-hitter Alex Gary, and then plated three more in the eighth. Rod Goldston extended his hit streak to 15 games with a two-run double in the eighth.

OSU closed out the scoring in the game with a three-run homer by John Urick, his second of the game and ninth of the season in the eighth inning, and a Cory Von Tungeln solo shot in the ninth.

Beck finished the night with a 2-for-6 performance with three RBI. Roper added three RBI of his own, while Wayne Kilmer, Brandon McDowell and Sigmon each contributed two hits. Joe Camac (2-2) picked up the win in relief, while Derrick Hawk earned his second save of the season, pitching three innings of relief.

Western Carolina will return to action with a three-game set in Spartanburg versus Southern Conference foe Wofford this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader at Duncan Park on Saturday, starting at Noon, with a single game set for Sunday at 1:30 pm.
