Greenville, N.C. - Western Carolina (1-3-1) fell, 3-0, to East Carolina (3-2-1) in women's soccer action Sunday, as East Carolina's Rachelle Cabeceiras scored two goals and Melissa Penny added another for the Pirates.
The Lady Pirates got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Cabeceiras headed in a cross pass from sophomore Carmen Calpo. Later, off the throw in, Calpo and Cabeceiras hooked up again in the 71st minute, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead. In the 89th minute of play Mindy Nixon found sophomore Melissa Penny for the final goal of the match.
Catamount goalkeeper Tina Weaver turned away a career-high 12 Pirate shots in the match.
The Catamounts return to action Wednesday, September 17, at home verses Youngstown State. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 pm at Schrader Field. All attendees are asked to park by the WCU picnic area and enter the field by walking across the bridge, due to construction at the track.
