Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - Junior Natalie Turgeon scored midway through the second half to lead Western Carolina to a 1-0 shutout over the Wofford Terriers Friday afternoon in Southern Conference action at Schrader Field.

The win marks the second time in Western Carolina soccer's six year history that the Catamounts (3-6-3, 1-2-3) have defeated the Terriers (7-3-0, 2-2-0), and the first time the victory has been at Schrader Field.

Turgeon broke through two Terrier defenders at the 68:24 mark and found the back of the net to provide what would prove to be the game winning goal. Turgeon also added four shots to Western's 17 shots for the match. Junior Casey Davis also contributed four shots for the Cats, followed by sophomore Stephanie Svoboda and freshman Lauren Atkinson, who tallied three a piece.

Wofford senior Eve Van Harpen and freshman Whitney Steelman led the Terriers on offense, each contributing two shots a piece to Wofford's total of eight for the game.

Wofford sophomore goalkeeper Austin Somers scooped up a game high six saves on the afternoon for the Terriers, while WCU sophmore goalkeeper Alesha Row grabbed four saves for the Catamounts.

"I am very proud of our performance today," Head Coach Debbie Hensley said. "We were solid for the entire match and found a way to put the ball in the net. Hopefully we can carry that intensity into our next game."

Western hosts Furman next on Monday, Oct. 11 in Southern Conference action. Match time is set for 4:00 pm at Schrader Field. Wofford travels to Greensboro, N.C. to face the Spartans on Sunday, Oct. 10 with match time set at 1:00 pm.
