WCU Soccer Suffers a 4-1 Loss to Georgia State University

Atlanta, Ga. - Western Carolina women's soccer was defeated 4-1 by Georgia State University in the Catamount's final match of the Georgia State/Marriott Invitational on Sunday at the Atlanta Silverbacks Stadium.

Western Carolina took an early lead in the game as junior Casey Davis, a Marietta, Ga. native, headed a Megan Chambers, who hails from Roswell, Ga., corner kick pass into the left side of the goal for a 1-0 advantage. The Catamounts carried that lead into halftime.

Georgia State came out strong in the second half as Sarah Feske evened the scored as she collected a Nathalie Carter pass and fired the ball into the right side of the net. Collins-Cephers followed with her goal on a Feske pass fo a 2-1 advantage at the 59:29 mark. Lauren Chavez scored when she picked up the loose ball in front of the goalkeeper and slipped it into the left side. Carter closed out the Lady Panters scoring at the 88:55 mark on a header into the high left side of the goal.

Georgia State goalkeeper Alexa Pasquarelli earned the win, registering three saves in 79 minutes of action before being replaced by Charlotte Vargo, who had one save. Western Carolina sophomore Alesha Row collected eight saves for Western Carolina.

The Catamounts are scheduled to travel to Tampa, Fla. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 to face South Florida with match time set to begin at 7:30 pm (Travel plans may be altered due to Hurricane Ivan).
