Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - Bulldog junior Brita Nordgren scored two goals as UNC Asheville (1-2) claimed a 3-0 victory over Western Carolina (1-2) Friday afternoon at Schrader Field.

Nordgren scored the first of her two goals as she headed in a pass from Hilary McKay at 27 minutes into the first half. Then in the second half at 73:34, Bulldog freshman Shoshana Field found a pass from Olivia Korman and headed in the second UNCA goal of the game. Field's goal was followed three minutes later by Nordgren's second goal which provided the final 3-0 decision for the Bulldogs.

The Catamounts led the Bulldogs in shots 11 to nine with junior Casey Davis and sophomore Stephanie Svoboda leading the Cats with three shots each and Nordgren leading the Bulldogs with three shots of her own. Other Catamounts adding shots on the board were Heather Dittmer with two and Meghan Reilly, Tammy Jones, and Jamie Hopkins with one shot apiece.

WCU sophomore Alesha Row grabbed three saves against the Bulldogs, while UNCA junior Michelle Mattos scooped up five saves on the day.

"Despite the disappointing result, I thought we made progress in some aspects of our play," Head Coach Debbie Hensley said. "We will need to eliminate lapses in focus on defense, and recommit to the defensive intensity we had in preseason."

The Catamounts will travel to the Georgia State/Marriott Invitational next weekend, Sept. 10-12 and will face Jacksonville State on Friday, Sept. 10 with match time set to start at 4:00pm, and Georgia Southern on Sunday, Sept. 12 with match time set to start at 1:00pm.
