Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - A goal by Western Carolina late in the first half proved to be enough as the Catamounts defeated the College of Charleston, 1-0, in women's soccer action in front of 295 fans at Patriots Point Field in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

The loss forced the Cougars record to drop to 5-7-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Southern Conference, while the Catamounts improve to 13-4 overall and 4-3 in the Southern Conference.

The Catamounts scored just before the end of the first half at 42:55, when junior Meghan Reilly fed the ball from the right side to sophomore Lauren Atkinson, who was located just inside the box about 15 yards out. She passed the ball to senior Natasha Moore who was about 10 yards out on the right. Moore then blasted the ball over the goalkeeper's head for the score.

Catamount Keeper Alesha Row picked up six saves, including a dramatic one with 16 seconds left after diving to deflect a bullet by Cougar Carolyn Morris that would have tied the game. Erin Smith had three saves on the evening.Moore and senior Natalie Turgeon led the catamounts with two shots each.

The Catamounts will host Chattanooga Sunday, October 23, at 2:00 pm at the Catamount Athletic Complex. Immediately following the match The Western Carolina soccer team will host a free youth clinic immediately following tonight's game at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
