Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team fell, 7-0, to the Wofford College Terriers Wednesday afternoon in Southern Conference action at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

With Western Carolina not contesting number three doubles, Wofford took an early 1-0 advantage in the match when the number two doubles team of freshman Ashley Page and sophomore Adrianne Hodges defeated WCU freshman Holly Stocks and sophomore Susanna Sjokvist in straight sets, 8-0. After breaking serve to take the early, 1-0, advantage, Western's sophomore tandem of Trish Hanson and Mariona Trilla Jane dropped four-straight sets before tallying their second set win in the number one slot. It wasn't enough, however, as they fell 8-2 to Wofford seniors Ellen Rogers and Tara Hartness.

The Terriers secured the victory after winning at number five and four singles, respectively, with WCU not contesting at number six to take the 4-0 lead. Hodges defeated Abbott at five and Page defeated Stocks at six, both in straight sets.

Western led early in each of the first three singles, 1-0. At number one, Hanson took Rogers to the brink in the first set before falling 7-5. She was blanked in the second set, falling 6-0 in the final match of the day. At number two, Sjokvist succumbed to Hartness, 6-4, 6-2, with Trilla Jane dropping her third-seeded singles match by identical scores of 6-3 to freshman Cayley Wetzig.

The Catamounts return to action on Thursday, April 6 hosting the Furman Lady Paladins in SoCon action at the Catamount Athletic Complex. Match-time is set for 3:00 pm.
