Davidson, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team used a goal in each half, to defeat the Davidson Wildcats 2-1 Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts improve to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in the Southern Conference after the victory while Davidson drops to 8-4-3 and 6-2 in the SoCon after the loss.

The victory for Western Carolina extends its winning streak to three games including two straight wins on the road against Southern Conference opponents. In addition, Western Carolina gave Head Coach Tammy DeCesare her first win at Davidson in her tenure.

With the scored knotted at one at the half, Western Carolina came through in the 81st minute for the game-winner.

With nine minutes left in the contest, the Catamounts were attacking inside the Davidson box and freshman Kayla Beauduy took advantage of the loose ball firing it past the Wildcats keeper Christy Carry for the game-winning goal. Beauduy now has two game-winning goals on the season and her fourth goal of the year, tying teammate Shanna Schmoker for the team lead.

Western Carolina's defense held the Wildcats to just one shot over the final nine minutes to preserve the victory. Catamounts keeper Caitlin Williams finished with five saves to earn the win.

Davidson struck first in the first half when in the 31st minute Tiffany Mumby hit the lower left post and the rebound came right to Suzanne Sittko who scored on a wide open net for her third goal of the season making it 1-0 Davidson.

The Catamounts fired back six minutes later when sophomore Erin Hamilton found the net after beating Wildcats keeper Carry inside the box to tie up the score. Hamilton scored her second goal of the season with the assist coming from Jenny Matteson.

Western Carolina and Davidson finished a very tight first half even in shots with five apiece.

The Catamounts return home this week for family weekend when Western Carolina will host two home contests. The first match will be against Chattanooga at 7 p.m. Friday and the Catamounts will complete the home stand with Samford on Sunday at 2 p.m.
