Western Carolina head coach Dennis Wagner:

Opening statement about the Saturday's game:
"I hate to see the seniors go out that way. We had plenty of opportunities to win that football game. Defensively, we played a great game. The score doesn't indicate that, but they were on the field the whole second half. I think we had nine or 10 series in a row where we were three plays and out. We had no rhythm on offense. We wouldn't set our feet, we couldn't protect up front, (we were) dropping balls. The whole game, our offense just didn't do a good job."

Wagner when asked about the impact Appalachian's defense had on WCU's offensive struggles:
"More of it was us. We had three or four opportunities (in the first half) to get the ball in the end zone and didn't get it there. I don't think it was a good game offensively the whole way. How many dropped balls did we have? How many times did we just not execute? The defense gave us great field position three or four times, and we just didn't take advantage of it."

WCU red-shirt freshman quarterback Zack Jaynes:

Jaynes' overall comment about game:
"I thought we came out and played decent in the first half. Once again, our defense carried us for what we got. We just couldn't execute, didn't execute on offense, didn't help the defense out. But hats off to (Appalachian). Great football team, as usual, and they played a great game."

Zack Jaynes on ASU's defense:
"They blitzed a lot more than we expected, but I think it's just the fact of making plays and running with it, and we just didn't do it."
