CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -Brandon Giles scored 25 points to lead Western Carolina past the College of Charleston 65-57 in Southern Conference action Saturday.
The Catamounts (8-17, 4-11 SoCon) got 24 points off 21 Cougar turnovers and gave the ball up just eight times.
Western Carolina used an 11-5 run to end the half and take a 30-27 lead at the break. But the Cougars came out firing in the second and capped a 9-2 run with a couple of free throws by Marcus Hammond to take a 36-32 lead with 14:05 left. The Catamounts answered with a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 42-38 lead.
Donavan Monroe capped a 7-0 run with a dunk to give the Cougars a 45-42 lead with 8:36 left. But, a layup by Arnold Gore, who finished with 14, and two free throws from Giles gave Western Carolina the lead for good at 46-45 with 7:19 left.
The College of Charleston (12-14, 7-9) got 15 points and six rebounds from Andrew Goudelock, who was 3-for-3 from 3-point range. Tony White Jr. had 12 points and Monroe added 11. Jermaine Johnson led all players with 10 rebounds.
Jake Robinson added 13 points for the Catamounts.
