Post-Game Notes
Samford 16, Western Carolina 3
Seibert Stadium - Birmingham, Ala.
Sat., Oct. 3, 2009

With the loss...
- Western Carolina has dropped seven-straight games dating back to last season ... it also represents the 14th-straight Southern Conference road loss;
- The Catamounts have lost six-straight in the overall head-to-head series with Samford;
- It matches WCU's worst start since 1981 when the Catamounts also opened up the season, 0-5;

Post-Game Notes:
- Western Carolina held the Samford offense scoreless in the game-opening drive on Saturday ... It marked the first time an opponent had been held scoreless in its first drive since the season opener with Vanderbilt on Sept. 5 - In that contest, Western Carolina's Chris Collins forced a Vanderbilt fumble and Charles Johnson recovered the football for the Cats, ending the Commodores opening drive;
- Blake Bostic's career-long 44-yard field with five minutes remaining in the second quarter marked the first points for the Catamount offense in the first half this season ... Bostic had two field goals of 43 yards prior to Saturday - most recently against Appalachian State on Nov. 22, 2008 to end the 2008 season - but the Bostic, N.C., native split the uprights from a yard farther to establish his benchmark;
- The scoreless first quarter for Samford was the first time a WCU opponent had been held scoreless in the first period since Nov. 22, 2008 when the Catamounts held a 7-0 lead over Appalachian State;
- WCU freshman running back RaShawn Grate made his first collegiate start on Saturday. Grate, a freshman from Tabor City, N.C., led the Cat's offense in rushing with nine carries for 24 yards ... Grate was standing in his own end zone on his first official collegiate play after Samford downed its series-opening punt at the one-yard line;
- Senior DB Chris Collins led the WCU defense with 12 tackles and a sack against the Bulldogs ... Collins followed up with his second best performance of the year after recording 14 tackles against Georgia Southern on Sept. 19 ... Collins has recorded eight-or-more tackles in every game so far this season;
- Senior LB Adrian McLeod finished with 10 tackles on Saturday against the Bulldogs ... McLeod has had nine-or-more tackles in every game this season;
- Freshman WR George Richardson returned five kicks for a season-high 100 yards against Samford ... The wide out from Kernersville, N.C. had a career day surpassing his previous best of six returns for 98 yards which was set against Vanderbilt on Sept. 5 ... The 100 yard total was the most by any WCU return man in this season and the most yardage since Adam Hearns recorded 114 against Liberty last season.

Miscellaneous Notes:
- Western Carolina game captains: Senior DB #10 Chris Collins; Redshirt sophomore QB #12 Zack Jaynes; Senior DB #16 Antoine George and redshirt junior WR #80 Marquel Pittman; Western Carolina won the toss and deferred to the second half.
