Cullowhee, N.C. - Erin Hamilton's goal late in the first half helped lift the Western Carolina women's soccer team 1-0 over Appalachian State on Friday evening at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

WCU (8-6-5, 5-3-3) wrapped up the regular season with a three match winning streak that dated back to last week when the Cats picked up a pair of wins over Furman (2-0) and Wofford (1-0). Appalachian State (6-9-4, 3-5-3) has now dropped five consecutive matches to the Catamounts.

Hamilton scored the game winner, her first goal of the season, with less than three minutes remaining in the first half. The junior received the assist from sophomore Kayla Beauduy who crossed the ball to her five yards in front of the net.

Western Carolina controlled momentum early in the first half, leading in the shot column at one point, 6-2. Overall, the Cats narrowly led in the shot column, 14-13.

The Mountaineers had a couple of opportunities late in the match, but were thwarted by WCU goalkeeper Caitlin Williams. Williams recorded three saves in 89 minutes played. Sophomore Caitlin Gill started the contest for the Cats, thus notching a combined team save.

Beauduy led WCU with three shots, followed by a three of other Cats who collected two shots. Senior Katie Kole had a team-high two shots on goal. Altogether, six Catamount shots were on goal in the victory over ASU.

The one goal victory for WCU was the ninth out of 11 matches in the all-time series in which the game has been decided by one goal. WCU now leads the series, 9-2.

Western Carolina concluded the regular season with their fifth consecutive winning season, all under the direction of fifth-year coach Tammy DeCesare.
