Post-Game Quotes - Western Carolina at Samford

Oct. 4, 2009

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Opening Statement:
"We made too many mistakes. We threw too many picks. They were bad picks. Zack (Jaynes) hasn't performed up to the standards that we need him to perform to. He knows that he has a bye week to improve. He has got to play better against The Citadel. We fumbled the ball and we threw two picks. We had them stopped on third and fourth down, but we jump off sides. You can't do that. We are making a lot of mistakes."

On the play of special teams:
"Other than the penalties, I thought they played well. The punt team continues to give us good field position. Our kickoff return team gives us good field position, but we can't fumble the ball on kickoffs and punt returns. Our returners must hang on to the football. We had some penalties in regards to holding and that means we are out of position. If you are not in position then you can't reach with your hands, you have to use your body to block. Our return game must improve. I think the kickoff and punt team did an adequate job."

On the offense's performance:
"We did produce a field goal. The offense still has not been able to have the ability to get in the redzone and score. You don't get the ball knocked out on a reverse and give (Samford) 17 yards for a chance to score. They like to grind it out and make it a fast paced game. It all comes down to us. It's about us executing and about us doing it right. We've got a week to heal some owies. We have a week to prepare for The Citadel. "

On the importance of the bye week:
"We need the bye week every other week right now the way we are doing things. The bye week is critical for us right now. We've got to get some guys back and get them into the rhythm and grove. I felt at halftime we had a chance to win this football game. I am disappointed we let this slip away."
