With the loss...
- Western Carolina has dropped five-straight to mountain rival, Appalachian State .. WCU has now lost 13-straight road games in the series at Appalachian State, last winning in Boone in 1984; - Appalachian State retained possession of the "Old Mountain Jug" for the 23rd time in the last 25 head-to-head meetings; - WCU has now dropped 16-straight SoCon road games dating back to the 2005 season; - The Catamounts failed in an attempt to win back-to-back games since last doing so in the first two games of the 2006 season;

Post-Game Notes:
- Freshman tailback Michael Johnson legged out a career-long 37-yard rush from scrimmage late in the first quarter, moving the Catamounts into scoring position in the red zone ... WCU later scored on a one-yard scoring strike from Zack Jaynes to Dion Wilson ... Johnson posted his second-career, 100-yard rushing game with 105 yards on 24 carries;

- Dion Wilson's one-yard touchdown reception on fourth down in the first quarter represented his first career receiving score;

- Western Carolina registered first quarter points for just the third time this season - and for the third-time in its final four games ... the Catamounts lit the scoreboard in the opening 15 minutes with two field goals for six points at Chattanooga and a touchdown at home against Elon;

- For the second-straight season, Western Carolina led Appalachian State at halftime ... In 2008, WCU led 10-7, holding a 7-3 edge this year;

- Western Carolina quarterback Zack Jaynes was sacked in the end zone for an Appalachian State safety early in the fourth quarter on Saturday ... it was the first safety given up by the Catamounts since Chattanooga's Chris Camacho recorded one on Oct. 13, 2007 ... It was Appalachian's first safety recorded since 2006;

- Junior DB Mitchell Bell recorded a career-high 14 tackles in the loss at Appalachian State;

- Senior Adrian McLeod finished with 11 tackles against Appalachian State marking his 10th-straight, double-digit tackle performance this season ... McLeod finished the season with 137 total stops, just eight shy of the school's single-season record ... McLeod posted double-digit tackles in all but one game this season, finishing with nine in the season opener against Vanderbilt.

- Appalachian State's 19 points were the fewest it has scored in a win since a 13-10 win at Furman back in 2003.

Miscellaneous Notes:
Team captains for Saturday afternoon's game: #10 Chris Collins; #16 Antoine George; #68 Victor Aquilina; #82 Gene Singletary ... the captains were joined by the 2009 Catamount seniors ... Appalachian State won the opening coin toss and elected to defer to the second half.
