With the loss...

- The Catamounts suffered their fourth-straight loss to Elon - the the longest drought against Elon since the opening seven games of the head-to-head series;
- It's WCU's 12th-straight loss to a nationally ranked NCAA FCS opponent and eighth overall to a team ranked sixth in the national polls (0-8);
- Western Carolina dropped to 2-5 under head coach Dennis Wagner in wearing all purple at home;
- WCU is now 4-6 on Hall of Fame Days.
Post-Game Notes:
- Western Carolina scored its first, first quarter touchdown of the season against Elon - it was also just the second, first quarter touchdown given up by the Phoenix since facing Wake Forest on September 19;
- The 14 points scored by Western Carolina in the first half tied the most points Elon has given up to an FCS opponent this season ... WCU finished with 17 points, the most allowed by the Phoenix to an FCS foe all season;
- True freshman RB Michael Johnson's 31-yard run in the first quarter was his longest of the season and the longest allowed by Elon this season... He also notched his first 100-yard rushing performance of his career becoming the first Catamount to go over 100 yards this season and the first since Quan Warley eclipsed the century mark at Georgia Southern on Oct. 25, 2008 ... Johnson is the first opposing running back that Elon has yielded over 100 yards to this season;
- Quarterback Zack Jaynes 16-yard rushing scamper in the first half was his longest of the season;
- Senior LB Adrian McLeod tallied 16 tackles in the loss giving him double-digit tackles in his last eight games ... he has recorded double-figure stops in all but one game this season, recording nine in the season-opener at Vanderbilt ... McLeod entered Saturday's game tied for fourth in all of FCS football and second in the Southern Conference in tackles ... He has 116 for his career and is just 29 tackles shy of the WCU single-season record of 145 set by Marcus Bradley back in 1997;
- Elon running back Brandon Newsome accounted for four of Elon's six touchdowns on the day ... it was the first-time a WCU opponent rushed for four scores in a single-game since Jerome Felton of Furman tallied six back in 2006;
- Elon wide receiver Terrell Hudgins broke Jerry Rice's (Mississippi Valley State) record for career receiving yards, doing so on the Phoenix first pass from scrimmage ... Rice's record was 4,697 yards, while Hudgins finished with 153 yards on eight catches.
Miscellaneous Notes:
- Western Carolina game captains: Senior DB #10 Chris Collins; Redshirt sophomore QB #12 Zack Jaynes; Western Carolina won the toss and deferred to the second half.
