Spartanburg, S.C. -
Friday night's Southern Conference baseball series opener between Western Carolina and Wofford has been officially postponed. The teams will attempt the series-opener beginning at Noon on Saturday, March 27 at Russell King Field, weather permitting.
However, with inclement weather forecasted for the region on Saturday, a twin-bill has also been tentatively scheduled for Sunday with first pitch at Noon as the teams will attempt to get all three of the conference games in this weekend.
Officials between both schools made numerous attempts throughout the afternoon to schedule around rain showers and storms that moved across the Upstate into the evening. It appeared that the two would be able to take to the field around 8:30 pm, but the trail-end of the final storm cell dumped a considerable amount of rain in Spartanburg, prompting the postponement.
Four of the five SoCon games on Friday night have experienced schedule changes, with Georgia Southern-Elon and The Citadel's nonconference affair with Air Force the only games played.
All three games of the WCU-Wofford series are scheduled to be broadcast on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee or online at www.WWCUFM.com. Saturday's air time will be 11:45 pm ahead of the scheduled Noon first pitch, with a similar schedule slated for Sunday if a double-header is needed.
