Western Carolina Women's Tennis Swept by UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC - UNC Greensboro shut out Western Carolina, 7-0, in women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

The Spartans swept all six singles matches with relative ease. UNCG (8-4, 3-1) only lost 13 total games in singles play, seven of them coming at No. 2 singles where Arielle VonStrolley was challenged by Amanda Massey, but disposed of her 6-3 and 6-4.

Alejendra Guerra, a senior from Tampico, Mexico who is ranked No. 72 in the nation heading into this week's new rankings, blew away Izabella Glinska, 6-1 and 6-0, at No. 1 singles to raise her mark to 21-7 this season. Guerra and VonStrolley also teamed up for a doubles win to move to 15-8 on the year.

No. 5 singles player Lucy Dougherty shut out Layne Arnold, 6-0 and 6-0, for her ninth win in the last 10 outings and has won 24 straight games after having won by a pair of 6-0 scores in a match against Cal State Bakersfield earlier this week. Dougerty, a native of Melbourne, Australia, is now 4-0 in league play this season.

Western Carolina hosts Gardner-Webb Sunday.
