CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Andrew Goudelock scored 16 points to lead the College of Charleston to a 67-48 win over Western Carolina on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference tournament.
Goudelock was 4-for-7 from 3-point range to lead the Cougars (25-7), who hit 10 of 20 from beyond the arc. Tony White Jr. scored 12 points and Jeremy Simmons added 11.
The College of Charleston will play Davidson in Sunday's semifinals. The teams split during the regular season, with Davidson winning 79-75 in Charleston on Dec. 29 and the Cougars winning 77-75 at Davidson on Feb. 7.
"I think if you would have told me before the game that (Charleston posts) Jermaine Johnson, Dustin Scott and Antwaine Wiggins would have a combined eight points in the ballgame, I think I would have taken that and our chances on maybe winning the game," said WCU head coach Larry Hunter during the post-game press conference. "Really, defensively, we weren't super, but to hold Charleston to 67 points, that's good enough to win as good as we are offensively."
He added, "Give (Charleston) credit; our shooting numbers, whether from the field or the free throw or 3-point line, were just atrocious. That's a credit to them and some of it was our lack of execution, too."
Western Carolina (16-15) was aiming to make its first appearance in the SoCon semis since 1999, but the College of Charleston used an early 14-2 run to pull ahead 21-7 and led 35-19 at the break.
Brandon Giles and Jake Robinson scored 10 points apiece for the Catamounts.
Western Carolina, which was a preseason fifth-place pick, earned a share of the SoCon's North Division title -- just the program's second all-time and first since 1996. WCU secured the most wins in Hunter's tenure and posted a facility record 11 wins inside the Ramsey Center.
