GREENVILLE, S.C. - Western Carolina women's soccer (3-7-2, 0-3-1 SoCon) dropped a 2-1 decision against Furman (7-2-2, 2-0-2 SoCon) Sunday at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The Catamounts struck first in the match in the closing minutes of the opening half. Senior Erin Hamilton scored her second goal of the season to give Western Carolina the early 1-0 lead. With 1:54 left in the half, Hamilton took a long pass from sophomore Laura Greb and scored off a shot from the left side. It was Greb's third assist of the season.

Western Carolina continued on the attack, to start the second half. Freshman Christine Kaznowski took a shot that went wide left. Furman countered on the other end, but the Paladin's shot hit its mark. At 49:12 on the clock, Alexa Jones scored her second goal of the season with a shot from the left side of the box to the right corner.

The Catamounts attempted a counter of their own, off a shot by Greb, but Furman goal keeper Jessica Smith picked up the save.

Furman took the lead with 31 minutes left in the game off a throw-in. The Paladin's Martha Hall had a flick on the pass off a throw-in with the assist going to Rachel Shelnutt and Casey McKeon.

Western Carolina had two quality looks at the goal in the final 12 minutes of the match. Greb took her fourth shot of the match that was saved by Furman's Smith. With 10 minutes left, senior Kellie Oberhotzer attempted a header to the goal that was high over the goal.

Furman had 25 shots on goal in the match to Western Carolina's nine. Though senior goalkeeper Caitlin Williams gave up two goals, she also registered six saved in the contest.
