With the loss…
-The Catamounts lost their seventh consecutive game in the series with Samford, including four-straight home losses; WCU failed to win back-to-back games for the seventh time under head coach Dennis Wager … the Catamounts haven’t won consecutive games since 2006;
-The Catamounts dropped to 17-19-1 in Homecoming contests at E.J. Whitmire Stadium;
-WCU remains winless at home, dropping all three of its home contests this season … the Catamounts have lost five-straight home games dating back to last season, last winning at Whitmire Stadium / Waters Field against The Citadel on Homecoming last year.
Post-Game Notes:
-Junior defensive back Torez Jones recorded his sixth interception of the year in the first quarter … the Wilson, N.C., native returned the pick 34 yards;
-Redshirt-senior Angelo Brown blocked a Samford 47-yard field goal attempt with 18 second remaining in the first half, WCU’s first blocked field goal of the 2010 campaign and first since Antoine George blocked a field goal against Gardner-Webb on Sept. 12, 2009 ... the blocked kick is the second of Brown’s career as he blocked a punt against Chattanooga in 2007, returning 27 yards for a touchdown;
-Junior Zac Brindise lined up under center for the first time since the Catamounts faced Chattanooga two weeks ago;
Brindise connected with WR Jacoby Mitchell for WCU’s lone touchdown of the game, a 25-yard pass with 13:28 left in the four quarter … For Mitchell, it was his fifth touchdown catch of the season which leads the team;
-Sophomore RB Michael Johnson racked up a career-high 117 yards on the ground in the loss, his first 100-yard rushing game of the season and third of his career … His previous career-best came against No. 6 Elon a year ago.

-WCU team captains for Saturday afternoon’s game: No. 20 Nate Harris; No. 27 Adam Hearns, No. 58 Zak Warner and No. 93 Charles Johnson. Samford won the toss and elected to receive; WCU defended to south end zone.
