With the Loss…
- Marked the Catamounts fifth-straight seasonal loss and the 16th straight in the head-to-head series with Georgia Southern; WCU recorded its eighth consecutive home loss to the Eagles in the overall series.
- The 16-game losing streak with Georgia Southern is now the longest active losing streak between current Southern Conference members, surpassing Elon’s 15-game losing skid to Appalachian State dating back to 1965.
- Western Carolina fished the home portion of its 2010 schedule with an 0-5 record, the first-ever winless season in Whitmire Stadium since opening in 1974; It was also the first time since 1963 that WCU did not win a game in Cullowhee.
Post-Game Notes:
- Freshman WR Sidney Rhodes had the longest rush of his career, a 22-yard scamper in the third quarter;
- Blake Bostic’s field goal attempt in the third quarter was blocked by Georgia Southern’s Roderick Tinsley, marking the first time this season WCU has had a field goal blocked and the first time since 2008 against Presbyterian.
- The Catamounts did not a score a touchdown for the first time this season in the 28-6 loss to Georgia Southern; the six points in the lowest offensive output of the year… WCU was held to seven points in a game twice this season, at North Carolina State and at home against Samford.
- WCU has now been outscored 102-21 in the third quarter this season;
- Western Carolina was held to a combined 68 yards rushing against Georgia Southern, the second-straight week -- and fifth time this year -- that the Catamounts have been held under 100 yards rushing collectively;
- Sophomore Jacoby Mitchell hauled in eight catches for 79 yards, the second most receiving yards in his career; His previous high came at home this season against Tusculum as he recorded 116 yards receiving;
- Senior defensive back Angelo Brown recorded his second career interception late in the second quarter when he picked off Eagle QB Jaybo Shaw; His only interception before tonight came against The Citadel back in 2006.
- Redshirt-junior Chris Everett led the squad in tackles, recording a career-high 11 tackles to go along with a forced fumble; His previous career-high was seven tackles against Georgia Southern back in 2007.
- True freshman Courtland Carson recorded career-high 10 tackles in the loss; The linebacker also picked up one of WCU’s eight tackles for loss in the contest.
- DL Charles Johnson made a career-high eight tackles against Georgia Southern in addition to picking up a sack and a total of two tackles for loss against the Eagles;
Miscellaneous Notes:
- Team captains for Saturday afternoon’s game: Nate Harris, Zak Warner and Charles Johnson … won the toss elected to receive.
- The game was WCU's Hall of Fame game as well as the final contest for the Catamount senior football players.
