Paladin Stadium - Greenville, S.C.
Sat., Nov. 6, 2010
With the loss...
- WCU suffered its fifth-straight loss in the head-to-head series with Furman, including remaining winless in its last eight trips to Greenville - a skid that dates back to 1994;
- The Catamounts have dropped four-straight games on the season.
Post-Game Notes:
- Western Carolina's game-opening drive moved 76 yards in 13 plays, consuming just over seven minutes of the first quarter clock ... It was WCU's longest scoring drive of the season in terms of both plays and time of possession, surpassing the 12-play, 6:20 drive it sustained in the third quarter against Appalachian State ... Blake Bostic capped the drive with a 21-yard field goal;
- Bostic connected on his second field goal of the season, a 21-yard boot that gave WCU an early 3-0 lead over the Paladins in the first quarter;
- Michael Johnson's 11-yard rush for a touchdown in the second quarter pulled WCU back within four points, 14-10 ... It is the third-straight game in which Michael Johnson has recorded a rushing touchdown - (1 yard run at Wofford, 3 yard run against Appalachian State);
- Nate Harris scored his first rushing TD of the season - and the second of his career - late in the second quarter for the Catamounts ... Harris has two career rushing scores, both coming in games against Furman;
- Junior DB Torez Jones intercepted his team, SoCon and national-leading seventh pass of the season, thwarting a late Furman drive inside the game's final four minutes ... Jones has the most INTs in a single-season for WCU since Justin Fryer had seven back in the 2000 season;
- Senior DB Angelo Brown recorded a career-best 13 tackles to lead the Catamount defense;
- Including being outscored 17-0 in the third quarter at Furman, the Catamounts have been outscored by a combined 95-to-21 on the year in the first stanza after halftime;
- Western Carolina was held to just 55 yards of total offense in the second half against Furman - a minus-two rushing attack with just 57 yards receiving;
- Furman quarterback Dakota Derrick made his first collegiate start on Saturday ... It is the second time in the last two Greenville, S.C., meetings that a QB has earned his first start under center ... In 2008, former Catamount QB Zack Jaynes was granted his first start, throwing for a career-best 302 yards on 33 completions against the Paladins ... Derrick threw for 122 yards on 12-of-23 passing with two touchdown passes.
