STATESBORO, Ga. - Western Carolina softball (3-18, 0-6 Southern Conference) was swept by Georgia Southern (16-9, 5-1 SoCon), in its three-game series, dropping the final game 7-2 Sunday at Eagle Field.

Sophomore pitcher Katie King started her second game of the weekend and made her third appearance of the series. In the middle of the fourth, King was replaced on the mound by freshman Amber Steinhardt.

The Eagles took the early lead, posting two runs in the bottom of the first. An RBI double by Jenny Side and an RBI single by Sam Russo accounted for the first two runs of the game.

The Catamounts pulled to within one run with one swing of the bat. Junior second baseman Amber Hawkins hit her first homerun of the season, drilling an offering over the left centerfield wall.

Georgia Southern pulled ahead for good with a pair of runs in the third inning and in the fourth inning and added a single run in the fifth inning.

Western Carolina did tack on one run in the top of the sixth inning. With runners on first and second, senior catcher Danielle Reese hit a single to left center and Steinhardt scored after reaching base thanks to a fielder's choice.
