With loss...
- WCU suffered its second straight loss to Chattanooga;

- Represents the sixth-time over the past three seasons that Western Carolina has failed to win back-to-back games;

- It was WCU's fifth-straight loss on Mountain Heritage Day and kept the Catamounts winless in their Southern Conference opener dating back to the 2005 season.

Post-Game Notes:
- Redshirt junior Josh Cockrell put Western Carolina on the board in the first quarter as he connected on the first TD pass of his career against Chattanooga ... Cockrell took a lateral pass from quarterback Zac Brindise and tossed it to Jacoby Mitchell for the TD, putting Western Carolina up 7-0 with 4:48 left in the first half;

- Western Carolina has scored first in three of its first four games this season - driving for a season-opening TD at North Carolina State; a fumble return for a score by Mitchell Bell at Gardner-Webb; and Cockrell's pass to Mitchell against UTC;

- True freshman quarterback Brandon Pechloff saw the first action of his career in the second half ... His first career pass was a 26-yard completion to tight end Andrew Rogers;

- Pechloff ended the game 9-of-23 with 127 yards passing and scored his first passing touchdown of the season - a one-yard strike to Jacoby Mitchell late in the fourth quarter;

- Jacoby Mitchell had a career-high two touchdown receptions against Chattanooga;

- Junior defensive back Torez Jones picked off his fifth interception in two games with 3:39 left in the third quarter ... Jones halted a Chattanooga scoring drive with an interception just outside the Western Carolina goal line;

- Redshirt senior defensive lineman C.J. Johnson recovered his first fumble for a TD of the season, collecting the Chattanooga fumble and taking it in for six points ... The score and Blake Bostic PAT tied the game at 14 with 12:05 left in the third quarter; It is also the second consecutive week WCU has scored on a fumble recovery;

- Junior linebacker Brandon Vaught finished with a career-high 12 tackles against Chattanooga, surpassing his previous career-best of eight set last year against The Citadel ... Vaught was also credited with a fumble recovery;

- Western Carolina's three fumble recoveries against Chattanooga are the most this season for the Catamounts;

- Junior defensive back Torez Jones came away with his team - and Southern Conference leading - fifth interception of the season in the second half of WCU's loss to Chattanooga;

- The Catamounts are now 18-16 overall in Southern Conference openers since joining the league in 1976.

Miscellaneous Notes:
Team captains for Saturday evening's game: junior RB #20 Nate Harris; senior LS #58 Zak Warner; senior WR #80 Marquel Pittman; and senior DL #93 Charles Johnson ... Western Carolina won the opening coin toss and elected to defer to the second half.
